I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought” (1 Cor. 1:10)|.From this scripture,we can see and conclude that Christians may disagree with one another and not walk in agreement causing disharmony and disunity in mind and thought. What brings about differences and so much division in the body of Christ? It all comes from how we interpret scripture, whether or not we correctly divide the Word of truth and mainly from what we understand about righteousness /how one gets salvation.|“For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant.”HEBREWS 5:13 AMP|In a marriage, differences in doctrines may make it very challenging, even difficult for a couple to walk together in agreement. No matter how spiritual they may be, or how much prayer or fasting they have done, or even how full of the Spirit they are, they will face daunting obstacles in their relationship as they seek to walk in harmony. It is not impossible—the Spirit of God can bring harmony of mind and spirit—but it is difficult. So it’s very important to search for the truth from the scriptures as a couple on these fundamentals in our Christian faith.
Here are some of the most important doctrines in Christianity that a couple needs to agree on otherwise it’s really difficult to walk together.Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? (Amos 3:3)
1.God is three in one or a Trinity (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Acts 2:32-33, John 10:30,17:11, 21; 1 Peter 1:2).
2.Jesus is fully God and was fully man on the earth (Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4:15; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
3.Second coming of Jesus Acts 1.11
4.Salvation is only by grace through faith in Christ alone.“For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous–being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.” ROMANS 10:10 AMP
5.All scripture from the Bible is authoritative,God-breathed and inspired by the Holy Spirit.(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).
What do you believe concerning each and every one of the five basic doctrines in Christianity?Take a moment to check what you believe for these doctrines one by one.Take a few minutes to pray about it,feel free to tell God what you think and then ask Him to help you know the truth.Ask Him to reveal these truths to your future husband/husband and pray for the desire in him to find the truth.Take your time studying each doctrine and read the scriptures written.Meditate on them throughout the day and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand. You can do a detailed study on these doctrines over a period of time by most importantly studying the Word yourself or as a couple and also ask other believers and teachers of the Word what you don’t understand.
Pray that as a couple you may desire sound doctrine and not just want to hear what makes you comfortable and satisfy your own desires.|For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths and man-made fictions [and will accept the unacceptable].”2 TIMOTHY 4.3-4 | Pray that the Holy Spirit gives you understanding of scripture and teach you how to correctly interpret the Word.|“Make an effort to present yourself to God as a tried-and-true worker, who doesn’t need to be ashamed but is one who interprets the message of truth correctly.”2 Timothy 2:15 CEB| You can only know the truth by revelation by the Holy Spirit.|“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear [to hear] them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father–the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].”JOHN 16:12-13| If your husband is of a different denomination from yours, pray that the different doctrines in your churches may not bring disharmony and division in your marriage.
